Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about specialist insurance for height safety, roof access and rope access trades – and how we work with insurance brokers and insureds across Australia.

We focus on businesses operating in the height safety, roof access and rope access industry. That includes specialists who design and specify systems, manufacture or import components, install and certify roof access and fall‑arrest equipment, provide training and audits, and carry out rope access operations such as inspection, cleaning, maintenance and incidental repairs.

We work exclusively with insurance brokers and their clients. Our role is to support brokers with specialist underwriting knowledge, quick responses and clear documentation so that complex at‑height risks are straightforward to place.

We provide a range of specialist covers tailored to the height safety and rope access industry, including:

  • Professional Indemnity for consultants, designers and those inspecting or certifying height safety systems.
  • Design & Manufacturers PI for businesses that design, manufacture or install height safety and roof access equipment.
  • General & Products Liability for installers, importers, manufacturers, suppliers and rope access operators.
  • Management Liability for the company and its directors and officers, along with associated management risks.
  • Property & ISR for premises, stock, equipment and business interruption, where required.

Yes. Rope access operators are a core part of our appetite. We can consider businesses providing inspection, cleaning, maintenance, painting and other at‑height work using rope access techniques, including those aligned with IRATA/SPRAT style frameworks. We focus on how work is supervised, the systems used and the standards followed when assessing risk.

As a guide, we typically ask brokers or insureds for:

  • A clear description of your client’s operations and services at height.
  • Breakdown of activities (design, installation, certification, rope access work, etc.).
  • Revenue splits, key projects or contracts and any work at extreme height or in complex environments.
  • Details of existing cover, required limits and any specific contractual requirements.
  • Claims history and risk management information such as procedures, training and audits.

Providing this upfront allows us to respond quickly and structure cover around the actual exposures.

Yes. Our exclusively arranged products can be offered as stand-alone policies or structured around existing placements. For example, we can provide specialist Professional Indemnity or Design & Construct PI alongside a separate liability placement, or combine multiple sections where a packaged solution is preferable.

We work with insurance brokers and clients across Australia to protect businesses whose operations involve working at height. If your client has overseas exposures or operations, please outline these in your submission and we will confirm what can be considered under our facilities.

Our approach is built around how work is actually carried out on roofs, structures and façades – not just job titles. We pay particular attention to:

  • Design, installation, certification and ongoing recertification of systems.
  • Standards, procedures and training used to manage work at height safely.
  • Supervision of rope access work and competence of technicians.
  • Contractual responsibilities and project requirements that drive coverage needs.

This helps produce practical coverage rather than long lists of impractical exclusions.

Claims are handled in conjunction with the capacity (insurance) providers behind our products, with our team closely involved to ensure the technical aspects of height safety and rope access work are properly understood. We work with the broker, client and claims handlers to resolve matters efficiently and with clear communication.

If your client’s activities, scale of operations or contract profile changes – for example, they move into more complex rope access work, new system designs or large project commitments – contact us via your broker as early as possible. We can then review whether any adjustments to limits, wordings or risk management information are needed.
